April 20 – June 10, 2018. “THE TALENT IN HIM IS WONDERFUL…” Exhibition in the St. Petersburg State Theater Library
The St. Petersburg State Theater Library presents the exhibition «The talent in him is wonderful…», timed to the 200th anniversary of the birth of I. S. Turgenev.
The exhibition is devoted to his dramatic work and introduces rare copies of plays and staging from the collection of the library. Many plays contain censorship notes (including a ban on staging) – a testament to the difficult history of the passage of the dramatic experiments of I. S. Turgenev through the censorship agency. The dramatic fate of the plays is illustrated by photographs of scenes from the performances of the Alexandrinsky Theater of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and sketchers of the artist of the Imperial theaters A. K. Sherwashidze.
At the exhibition you can see Turgenev’s letters to various people stored in the St. Petersburg State Theater Library, a book with the writer’s autograph, photographs of the Turgenev estate of the Spasskoye-Lutovinovo with signatures made by M. G. Savina’s hand, as well as her letter with memories of the writer.
The composition of the artist of the Alexandrinsky Theater M. M. Platonov, dedicated to I. S. Turgenev, created specifically for the opening exhibition.
